The Girls Brigade in Edgewater Baptist Church began sometime in the 1970s, as the “4th St. Catherine Girls Brigade”. The Ministry, which is international and interdenominational, caters to girls between the ages of 5 and 20. All members wear a uniform for identification.

The Girls Brigade is a vital part of the Church family and provides an opening for evangelistic work for both officers and girls. The Motto of the Girls Brigade is “Seek, serve and follow Christ”. The programmes planned by the Girls Brigade can be applied to all areas of a young lady’s life: spiritual, educational, physical and service.

Our Girls Brigade has approximately 20 girls, the Captain is Sis. Paula C. Bartley and the President is Sis. Claudette Thorpe. The girls engage in activities within the Church and the wider community. They do weekly drills and also participate in competitions such as Girl of the Year, drill and bible quiz competition.

Let us continue to support our girls and pray that they will, according to their Aim; truly ‘become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility, find true enrichment of life.’
