“Forward we go, strengthened by His love as we serve the Lord Jesus Christ”; this is the theme and main objective of our Ushers’ Board Ministry as we celebrate 20 years of service to the Edgewater Baptist Church community. The Ministry was launched formally in November 1983 with a membership of six (6). At present, the team stands at twenty-three (23). Our first President was Deacon Alfred Daley.
The Ushers are responsible for carrying out the following duties: the maintenance of order and the smooth running of church services: welcome and accommodation of worshippers: a collection of tithes and offerings at all services, except otherwise arranged: distribution of hymn books, bulletins etc: helping with the preparation and serving of refreshment for the Preacher, Leader and Family Bible Hour students, (Sunday School) & Vacation Bible School held annually in August. We also ensure that the Vestry is clean and in proper order.
In the early years, the Usher’s Board had been responsible for providing flowers and decorating the Church. Today, the Beautification Committee carries out this function.
In March 2003, for the first time, the Board staged a Prayer Breakfast, which has become an annual event. From the funds raised, we made a donation to the Aids Foundation of St. Catherine and to the Church Building Fund.
We thank God for His enabling over the years, and we continue to depend on His divine guidance, as we serve heartily as a team devoted to God and His Church.
