Leader: Sis. Janice Morrison
Assistant: Sis. Juliet Anderson
This Ministry started on June 25, 1983. It arose from a discussion held with the late Rev. A. E. Brown a retired Baptist minister who worked tirelessly as pastor at Edgewater Baptist. The Ministry started operating every 2nd and 4th Saturday afternoon, offering free blood pressure checks, urine testing, vision screening, counselling and referrals to other agencies.
Their official launch was on June 29, 1986. The founding members were Nurse Ruth Williams (deceased), Nurse Cynthia Chambers, Nurse Eileen Scott and Deacon I. Smith and Deacon Matilda Small (both deceased).
Over the years they have provided the services of an Ophthalmologist, General Practitioner, Pharmacists among other health care providers. The Ministry has also had health fairs, paid visits to shut-ins as well as the Horizon Home for the elderly sponsored by Jamaica Baptist Union.
Dr. Bert Rodney willingly and faithfully does volunteer work on 2nd Sunday of each month after morning service. We give God thanks for Dr Rodney’s faithful services.
Many persons have benefited from the services offered by this Ministry as they continue to bring about an awareness of health care, by way of talks, screening, consultations and publications.
We pray that God who has taken this Ministry through these years will continue to guide and give vision.
